A Prayer for America
“…from these very shores the Gospel shall go forth to not only this New World, but the entire world.” The Rev. Robert Hunt, Chaplain to Jamestown, April 29, 1607, consecrating the continent to the glory God.
Dear Heavenly Father, you are Almighty God—the Lord and maker of heaven and earth. Precious is your Living Word, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Redeemer and Savior. We come to you in humble repentance before your throne of grace asking for mercy and forgiveness for our sin and the sin of our land. Lord God, your Word says, “Return to me, and I will return to you.” Thank you, Father, for the freedoms and bounty you have given America because of your gracious blessings and the faithfulness of so many Americans who have come before us. Remember your people in America, Lord, and let your mercy and grace triumph over your judgment of America. Keep us under your care. Send a spiritual awakening and a revival that will establish us as a righteous nation with godly people and leaders who worship you in spirit and in truth. We desire to seek you and your kingdom first; we are needy, Lord, and we thank you for your steadfast love. Grant us wisdom and discernment between truth and falsehood and between good and evil that our country will bring glory and honor to your name. Inspire and empower us to spread the gospel to the people of America, Israel, and to all nations. We pray in the name of our Mighty King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Redeemer, Savior and the great love of our lives. Amen.
“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
